Sometimes a sequel can stand on its own, like "Aliens" or "Terminator 2," but usually these things devolve into obviously formulaic cash grabs by at least the third movie. In general, anytime Hollywood accidentally gets something right by decently funding a moderately innovative concept that does well at the box office, they immediately turn around and beat that concept to death until everyone is sick of it. There are few exceptions to this rule, and those that are exceptions are usually not expensive Hollywood blockbusters. The evidence that nonlegal factors drive judicial decisions leaves open important questions about whether doctrinal rationales are doing real work in shaping and constraining - rather than merely concealing the cynical motives for - official exercises of judicial power. ![]() See also: "Indiana Jones," "Star Wars," "Ghostbusters," "Independence Day," etc. My other thought on the matter is that any "sequel" or continuation of a series that comes out more than a decade after the original (or original series) is probably a money-making venture rather than a legitimate attempt to revitalize the series.
